Derek Andrews Safo born September 5, 1982 known professionally as Sway (Dasafo) was born and raised in Hornsey, North London by Ghanaian parents Beatrice & Adam.

Currently known as pioneer and Hip-hop trailblazer, Sway took the UK music scene by storm in 2005 with his independently promoted mix tapes “This Is My Promo” Vol. 1 & 2.

Their release helped to transform the way the urban UK music-scene operated.

Now one of the most respected names in UK rap, mercury-nominated Sway – born Derek Safo has been a stalwart of the urban scene since the age of 18. Back in 2005 Sway was one of the first UK rap acts to win a MOBO award prior to any official album release. His debut album, entitled “This Is My Demo” was released in 2006 to critical acclaim. The Independent called it “The best rap album in years” and the same year, SWAY won BET Hip Hop Award for BEST UK HIP-HOP.

Off the back of the album came an influx of live performances across the US, Europe and Africa, as well as collaborations with artists as diverse as Akon, Kaiser Chiefs and Ian Brown. In his role as producer Sway nurtured then unknown artists such as Chipmunk and Mr Hudson. “The Signature LP”, his second album, was released in 2008 and featured the UK underground smash “F UR X” and well as the internationally recognised collaboration with Akon.
Due to some unfortunate personal events Sway spent some time away from the mainstream music scene during 2009/2010, however he did manage to continue releasing previously recorded material in the form of underground mix-tapes.
Sway then re-emerged onto the scene in 2011 after being featured on Lupe Fiasco’s billboard number 1 album Lasers. He then signed a singles deal with 3Beat Records in 2011, Sway’s first single for the label “Still Speedin’ fast became Zane Lowe’s “Hottest Record in the World”. Sampling Loretta Holloway’s “Love Sensation” and featuring Sway’s signature word play the single caused a huge buzz online with Lewis Hamilton backing the track on twitter. He then went on to collaborate with the like of Flux Pavilion in 2012 to release the “Level Up” which landed him his first top 10 records.

2013 saw Sway, repositioning himself as a curator of new talent by finding Tigger Da Author and developing him whilst working on his own album.

2014 Saw Sway collaborate with the likes of globally recognized producers such as Giorgio Tuinfort, Nicky Romero, Don Diablo and Wilkinson whist touring the Nation with his long time friend in music Example. It has recently been announced that Sway’s “Deliverance” album is due to be released in 2015
