Sophie Maho Hamada Chan

Freelance Journalist

My name is Sophie and I am from Japan. Currently, I study BSc Human Sciences at UCL, an interdisciplinary degree that spans various Natural and Social Sciences. I became interested in global health after learning about the complex network of sociobiological factors that shape health through my Human Ecology classes. Thus, in writing for AHO, I want to combine perspectives from various academic fields such as Biology, Social Anthropology and Psychology; through holistic analyses of health issues, I hope to inform people and tackle global health disparities. My experiences in journalism include being a writer and marketing director for Kinesis, UCL’s life science magazine, as well as being the former co-editor-in-chief for my school’s arts and literary journal. I have also volunteered as an English tutor for local primary school children in Indonesia.
